Why would you not want to do a feature for a superstar???
the art of keeping your mouth closed
This year, there has been a clear, ever-present message in the media, in the political world, socially, everywhere you turn, the same message is being expressed.
Quiet as it’s kept: You can’t just be around anyone running your mouth.
You have to learn to keep your mouth closed
Not everything is meant for a conversation. Then you can see how, in some conversations, there’s not necessarily anything worthwhile being shared.
Lately, we’ve seen Young Thug’s name light up the headlines. Since his state recorded calls were leaked, we’re getting to see firsthand how much these men gossip. How much fake pumping people do, how inauthentic people become when you let them truly be themselves.
But rest assured, it’s not just the rappers who are running their mouths. People get caught up in the gossip, and not the kind that keeps people safe, but the kind that causes harm. In today’s day and age, everyone wants to be the first, to be the only, to be the one who stands out, and rightfully so.
We all want to be a star
But at some point, we have to draw the line.
Just because you’re burning, it doesn’t mean you’re a star.
In some way, we’ve lost the art of keeping our mouths closed. And now that I stop to think about it, I don’t think we ever could hold the information that matters.
Everyone prides themselves on being a yapper, having something to say, and a point to make. It sometimes ends up being noise, and while I appreciate a good soundscape as much as the next gyal, some things, some times, require some quiet.
When you get caught up in saying anything, trying to be included in every conversation, you can miss out on what really matters.
Your ears become fine-tuned to weed out the bullshit and see it for what it is when you sit back and listen. I’m a true believer that you never have to say too much to figure out what’s really going on. Given the chance, people will tell on themselves.
Here’s your reminder not to get caught up in having your voice heard that you end up saying the wrong thing to the wrong people, and you find yourself caught up and having to explain it all.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is shut your mouth
But you didn’t hear that from me…
